Get the Facts!

Girl Scout Cookies in the News

The Girl Scout Cookie Program has been targeted by a few national organizations calling for a boycott of Girl Scout Cookies this season. The reasons behind the boycott? Inaccurate statements that council cookie sales benefit a pro-choice agenda. This is simply not true.

  • One hundred percent of the money that Girl Scout troops earn through the Cookie Program stays local.
  • The mission of Girl Scouts is to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. This is not a political mission. Girl Scouts will not tolerate special interest groups linking its name to any political issue in order to advance an agenda, nor will it tolerate individuals and organizations that misuse its name.
  • Girl Scouts has not and will not endorse any person or organization. Girl Scouts has not and will not endorse any political party or politician.
  • Badgerland Council does not have a relationship with Planned Parenthood.
  • Girl Scouts of Wisconsin - Badgerland Council and Girl Scouts of the USA does not take a position on reproductive issues. We believe these are matters that are best discussed within the family.
  • We feel our role is to help girls develop self-confidence and good decision-making skills that will help them make wise choices in all areas of their lives.
What if my Girl Scouts are challenged by boycotters?

First of all, we don't expect this to be an issue around Badgerland. However, safety is the number one priority and, as Girl Scouts, we're always prepared! Use your best judgment in the unlikely event a boycotter should show up at a Cookie Booth.

  • Don't engage with any boycotter.
  • Give people the facts as stated above.
  • Do download and print copies of the Facts about Girl Scout Cookie flyers to have on hand. Feel free to distribute should anyone ask questions.
  • If, in the unlikely event, someone should approach your Girl Scouts and be argumentative: ask them to leave. We are role-modeling behavior for our Girl Scouts. Be respectful and firm. Ask the store manager for assistance.
  • If someone wants to further discuss these issues refer them to the Badgerland Council office: 800.236.2710. Please know your role is not to be the official spokesperson for Girl Scouts. We appreciate your role as a Girl Scout supporter.
  • Do check the Badgerland website Cookie Resource Page for more resources as they become available throughout the Cookie Program.

In Conclusion

Thank You. We look forward to a terrific sale.
Let's have fun. We're Girl Scouts, after all!
